Chemo is never fun but chemo at the Charlotte Maxeke is an ordeal! A wait, many hours long, in a crowded area on not very comfortable chairs. This after a long journey in the early morning to get a place in the queue. Then, after blood tests and chemo, the journey home – sometimes only getting there late in the afternoon.
Wherever possible, support is given to patients at the oncology clinics at the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital. This may take the form of arranging gifts for patients on special days or chatting to patients in need of encouragement and non-medical advice.
CanSurvive has a support group which meets on the first and third Wednesday of each month at P4 in the Radiation clinic. All patients are welcome no matter what cancer they have.
